The AI-powered feature transcribes conversations, produces summaries and identifies action items, reducing the administrative work traditionally performed after meetings.
Mountain View, California, August 14, 2026.— Google has expanded access to “Take notes for me,” a Gemini-powered function that automatically records the essential content of meetings held through Google Meet.
Once activated, the tool follows the conversation in real time and creates an organized document containing a summary, relevant decisions and suggested next steps. The resulting notes are saved as a Google Doc in the organizer’s Drive.
After the meeting, the host receives an email containing the recap and a link to the document. The file may also be attached to the corresponding Google Calendar event, depending on the organizer’s configuration and sharing permissions.
The function currently works in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese. However, it processes only one language during each meeting and does not yet reliably support conversations in which participants alternate between languages.
Users can activate it by selecting the pencil icon in Google Meet or configure it for future meetings through the platform’s settings. When note-taking begins, every participant receives an on-screen notification, providing visibility that Gemini is processing the conversation.
Access is not universal. The feature is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers hosting meetings, as well as customers with eligible Google Workspace business, enterprise and education plans.
Although the system can perform duties commonly assigned to an administrative assistant, it does not eliminate the need for human review. Artificial intelligence can misinterpret names, technical terminology, numerical information or responsibilities discussed without sufficient clarity.
Its use also introduces questions concerning consent, confidentiality and data governance. Organizations handling medical, legal, financial or corporate information must determine whether automated transcription complies with their internal policies and applicable privacy requirements.
Google’s tool illustrates how generative AI is moving from answering questions to documenting workplace activity. Its value will ultimately depend on whether users treat the generated notes as a convenient draft or as an unquestioned official record.
