Hollywood speculation meets an unexpectedly ordinary response.
London, United Kingdom
Saoirse Ronan has responded to growing speculation that her husband, Jack Lowden, could become the next James Bond, but she offered no confirmation that the Scottish actor has secured the role. Speaking while promoting her latest film, Ronan said the possibility is barely discussed at home despite the intense attention surrounding Amazon MGM’s search for Daniel Craig’s successor. Her response was striking precisely because of its simplicity. While the entertainment industry debates one of cinema’s most valuable roles, the couple remains focused on everyday life.
The rumors gained momentum after Gary Oldman, Lowden’s co-star in Slow Horses, publicly suggested that the actor was among the candidates being considered for 007. Oldman later clarified that he did not know who had actually been chosen, but his endorsement significantly increased speculation around Lowden. Ronan acknowledged the comments without expanding on them. She instead emphasized that domestic responsibilities, work and ordinary routines occupy far more space in their lives than Bond casting rumors.
Lowden has emerged as a credible candidate partly because of his performance as River Cartwright in Slow Horses. The role has demonstrated his ability to combine action, tension, vulnerability and dry British humor inside a successful espionage series. He has also received major award nominations, increasing his international profile without becoming so globally identified with another franchise that a Bond transformation would be difficult. That balance has made his name increasingly attractive to fans discussing the future of 007.
The next Bond film remains one of Hollywood’s most closely guarded projects. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct, with Steven Knight writing the screenplay, while Amazon MGM now controls the creative direction of the franchise. Several actors continue to circulate in speculation, including Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner and Harris Dickinson. No official announcement has established who will inherit the role.
Ronan has previously expressed interest in the Bond universe herself, particularly in the possibility of playing a villain. That creates an intriguing hypothetical scenario in which both members of one of Britain and Ireland’s most prominent acting couples could eventually enter the same franchise. For now, however, neither possibility has moved beyond speculation.
The contrast is almost cinematic. Around Lowden, the industry imagines tuxedos, Aston Martins and global espionage. At home, according to Ronan, the priorities remain considerably simpler: walking the dog and making dinner.
Sometimes the biggest Hollywood rumor ends at the kitchen table.
