Nicole Kidman’s Red-Carpet Interview Sparks Unverified Intoxication Claims

A brief and playful exchange became the basis for conclusions that the available footage cannot establish.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

Nicole Kidman generated online speculation during the United States premiere of Practical Magic 2 after appearing unusually animated in a short red-carpet interview. Some social-media users claimed the Australian actress was intoxicated, although no evidence beyond the video has been presented.

When an Entertainment Tonight reporter asked who designed her outfit, Kidman initially appeared not to hear the question. She then identified Versace before laughing and encouraging those around her to enjoy themselves and celebrate. The interaction quickly circulated online, attracting comments that interpreted her speech and gestures in different ways.

Kidman has not said that she consumed alcohol before the event, and neither her representatives nor the organizers have confirmed the allegation. A short recording cannot reliably establish intoxication because background noise, fatigue, excitement and the compressed pace of red-carpet interviews can produce similar behavior.

The actress attended the premiere alongside Sandra Bullock, Maisie Williams and Joey King. Kidman and Bullock reprise their roles as sisters Gillian and Sally Owens nearly three decades after the original fantasy romance was released. The attention surrounding the clip demonstrates how rapidly an unverified interpretation can become a celebrity headline when repetition replaces supporting evidence.
