The championship leader still expects a fierce battle.

SACHSENRING, GERMANY — July 2026. Jorge Martín has acknowledged Marc Márquez as the favorite for the German Grand Prix, despite arriving at Sachsenring as the MotoGP championship leader. The Aprilia rider holds 193 points, seven more than teammate Marco Bezzecchi. Márquez remains fifth, approximately 40 points behind Martín.

Sachsenring has historically been one of Márquez’s strongest circuits. The Ducati rider has recorded 12 victories across different categories at the German venue, earning recognition as the track’s dominant figure. Martín believes that experience and recent form make the defending champion particularly dangerous this weekend.

The Spanish leader nevertheless remains confident in his own prospects. Martín has previously performed strongly at Sachsenring and believes Aprilia can compete near the front. His priority is to maintain consistency and avoid unnecessary risks before the championship enters its summer break.

Martín said leading the standings does not change his approach or create additional pressure. He considers Márquez, Bezzecchi and several other riders serious contenders in a season that remains highly competitive. The championship’s narrow margins mean a single mistake could significantly alter the standings.

Márquez may rule Sachsenring, but Martín arrives carrying the championship lead.
