Djokovic Refuses to Close Wimbledon Door After Sinner Defeat

The Serbian legend still believes he can challenge the best.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — July 2026. Novak Djokovic has rejected suggestions that his latest Wimbledon appearance could be his last. The 39-year-old confirmed that he wants to return to the All England Club at least once more. His comments followed a 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 semifinal defeat to defending champion Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic acknowledged that Sinner was superior throughout the match and described the result as a decisive defeat. The Italian’s powerful serving and relentless consistency prevented the seven-time champion from creating significant opportunities. Djokovic nevertheless expressed pride in reaching another Grand Slam semifinal.

His Wimbledon campaign included a five-hour quarterfinal victory over Félix Auger-Aliassime, demonstrating that he can still withstand demanding matches at the sport’s highest level. Djokovic admitted that physical preparation and recovery have become increasingly difficult with age. However, he believes he remains capable of competing among the world’s top players when healthy.

The Serbian continues pursuing a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and an eighth Wimbledon crown. He has not established a retirement date and says his passion for competition remains intact. His future schedule will depend increasingly on physical condition, recovery and motivation.

Djokovic is approaching the end of his career—but he is not ready to close Wimbledon’s door.
