Hollywood Stars Rally Behind USA Despite Turkey Defeat

Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Paris Hilton transformed a dramatic World Cup match into one of the tournament’s most glamorous nights.

Los Angeles, June 2026

The United States national team suffered a dramatic 3–2 defeat against Turkey in its final World Cup group match, but the result did little to diminish the spectacle surrounding a packed Los Angeles Stadium. Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton and numerous entertainment figures filled the stands as Hollywood embraced the tournament unfolding across North America.

The match had limited consequences for the United States, which had already secured first place in Group D and qualification for the knockout stage. Coach Mauricio Pochettino therefore made nine changes to his starting lineup and protected several players carrying yellow cards. Turkey had already been eliminated, but entered the field determined to finish its campaign with a victory.

The Americans appeared ready to reward the home crowd when Auston Trusty scored after only three minutes. Turkey responded before halftime through Arda Güler and Barış Alper Yılmaz, reversing the momentum and exposing gaps in a heavily rotated American defense.

Sebastian Berhalter restored parity shortly after the interval with a powerful long-range strike. The match seemed destined to finish 2–2 until substitute Kaan Ayhan scored from close range with the final action of stoppage time, securing Turkey’s first victory of the tournament and silencing more than 70,000 spectators.

Although the football delivered its own drama, the celebrity presence became one of the evening’s dominant stories. Pitt attended in a United States jersey, white trousers and a matching bucket hat. He sat beside Edward Norton, creating an unexpected reunion between the actors who starred together in the 1999 film Fight Club.

The pair appeared relaxed as they watched the match and shared drinks in the stands. Their presence immediately attracted cameras, particularly because public appearances featuring both actors together remain uncommon more than two decades after the release of their influential film.

Leonardo DiCaprio was also among the spectators, dressed in black and concentrating on the action. The actor joined an increasingly long list of major entertainment figures attending World Cup matches in the United States, where stadiums have become temporary meeting places for sports, cinema, music and fashion.

Paris Hilton arrived with her husband, Carter Reum, and their children, Phoenix and London. The family wore coordinated red, white and blue clothing in support of the national team, while Hilton selected a patriotic jersey minidress, white sunglasses and high boots.

Her involvement extended beyond watching from the stands. Hilton carried the official match ball onto the field before kickoff and placed it on its stand as her children accompanied her. The ceremonial role surprised some football supporters but reflected the entertainment-driven presentation surrounding several matches hosted in the United States.

The appearance marked Hilton’s third United States match of the tournament. She had previously attended the victories over Paraguay and Australia, consistently wearing clothing inspired by the national colors and reinforcing her public support for the team.

Jessica Alba watched the game with her daughters Honor and Haven, while Will Ferrell wore a United States jersey and white visor. Ferrell’s attendance was unsurprising given his longstanding interest in football and his involvement as part of the ownership group behind Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC.

Alison Brie and Dave Franco attended alongside Christopher Mintz-Plasse, while Keegan-Michael Key, Kelly Rowland and Lance Bass were also photographed inside the stadium. Malin Akerman wore official World Cup merchandise, and Joey King openly supported Turkey by appearing in the visiting team’s jersey.

Other reported attendees included Ben Affleck, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Owen Wilson, Colin Farrell, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade and former basketball star Scottie Pippen. The unusually concentrated gathering gave the evening the atmosphere of an awards ceremony conducted around a football pitch.

The World Cup’s arrival in North America has consistently drawn prominent personalities. Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Salma Hayek, Ryan Reynolds, Jay-Z, Sofía Vergara and other figures have attended matches or official events since the competition began on June 11. Los Angeles, with its proximity to the entertainment industry, has produced some of the tournament’s most visible celebrity scenes.

The glamorous audience could not protect the hosts from defeat, but the loss did not end their campaign. The United States finished first in Group D after earlier victories over Paraguay and Australia and will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 on July 1 in Santa Clara, California.

One encouraging development was the return of Christian Pulisic, who entered during the second half after recovering from a calf injury. The American captain received one of the loudest ovations of the evening and quickly added speed and creativity to the attack.

Pulisic struck the post and came close with another curling attempt, suggesting that he may be ready to play a more substantial role in the knockout stage. His return carried greater competitive importance than the group result because the United States depends heavily on his ability to create chances under pressure.

There was also concern when Trusty suffered an apparent hamstring injury and left the field on a stretcher near the end of the match. His condition could complicate Pochettino’s defensive planning as the tournament moves into elimination games.

For Turkey, the late victory offered a measure of consolation after elimination. The team responded strongly after conceding early and demonstrated the character praised by coach Vincenzo Montella, although the three points arrived too late to change its position at the bottom of the group.

For the United States, the evening produced contrasting images. The players left the field after a last-second defeat, while the stands continued generating photographs destined to circulate across entertainment media and social platforms.

The convergence of Hollywood and football showed how the 2026 World Cup is operating as more than a sporting competition. In American host cities, the tournament has become a cultural event where national identity, celebrity visibility and global entertainment occupy the same stadium.

The defeat will matter when the coaching staff reviews defensive mistakes, but it did not erase the optimism created by winning the group. The celebrities came to support the United States, Turkey delivered the final surprise and Los Angeles once again turned an international match into a spectacle extending far beyond the score.

Las estrellas llenaron las gradas, pero el futbol conservó el derecho de escribir el final. / The stars filled the stands, but football kept the right to write the ending.
