Fernando Alonso has admitted that his main objective after Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix is not connected to Formula 1, but to arriving home in time to watch Spain face Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final.
The Aston Martin driver said he has followed most of Spain’s matches and believes the national team can feel the support of the entire country. With the football final scheduled several hours after the race, Alonso hopes to catch at least the second half during his journey home.
Expectations for Aston Martin at Spa remain limited after a difficult start to the season. The team is preparing an important development package for the Hungarian Grand Prix, where Alonso hopes the car can begin fighting more consistently for qualifying positions and points.
For one weekend, however, sporting ambition will be divided between the circuit and the football pitch. Alonso will complete the Grand Prix before joining millions of Spaniards waiting to see whether their national team can lift another world title.
