The Serbian spoke after his Wimbledon semifinal defeat and acknowledged that another major championship is no longer guaranteed. At 39, he continues to compete at the highest level while facing a new generation that has transformed the balance of men’s tennis.
Djokovic said he is tired of being constantly questioned about the record. He explained that winning a 25th major is no longer the sole purpose of his career, despite the historical significance of the milestone. His comments reflected a desire to separate personal motivation from the expectations imposed on him.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion was unable to impose his rhythm in the semifinal and admitted that his opponent had been superior. Physical fatigue also became a decisive factor after a demanding tournament and several long matches. The defeat reinforced the growing difficulty of sustaining his dominance against younger rivals.
Djokovic remains the most successful men’s singles player in Grand Slam history with 24 titles. However, he has not added another major trophy since the 2023 US Open. The emergence of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has made each new opportunity more demanding and less predictable.
Despite the disappointment, Djokovic said he still enjoys competing and intends to continue playing.
