The Thai capital rose from thirteenth place to lead a global survey of urban life after dark.

Bangkok has been ranked as the world’s best city for nightlife in 2026 by Time Out, moving ahead of established entertainment capitals including Berlin and New York. The annual ranking, produced in collaboration with Intrepid Travel, drew on responses from more than 24,000 residents across 150 cities, together with assessments from the publication’s editors and local experts.
The survey considered more than conventional nightclubs. Participants evaluated the quality and diversity of evening entertainment, affordability, safety, inclusiveness and opportunities to connect with local communities. Bangkok’s broad combination of rooftop bars, small cocktail venues, live music, street-side gatherings, late-night restaurants and LGBTQ+ entertainment helped it advance from thirteenth position in the previous ranking.
Bangkok’s nightlife operates across sharply contrasting settings. Visitors can move from luxury terraces overlooking the skyline to independent bars, food markets and informal venues embedded within residential neighborhoods. That variety allows the city to serve different budgets and social preferences while maintaining an active street culture long after conventional business hours.
Berlin placed second, supported by its influential electronic-music scene and culture of creative freedom. New York ranked third, while Melbourne and São Paulo completed the global top five. The presence of cities from Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and South America reflects a definition of nightlife that increasingly values accessibility, cultural diversity and local identity alongside prestige.
The ranking represents the perceptions of surveyed residents and selected specialists rather than an objective declaration that Bangkok will be the best destination for every traveler. Individual experiences depend on budget, neighborhood, personal interests and safety conditions. Nevertheless, the result highlights how nightlife contributes to a city’s international image, visitor economy and sense of community, transforming entertainment into a significant form of urban culture.
