Unity, ethics, and professional development defined the event.
Los Mochis, Sinaloa | June 2026. The Organization of United Communicators of Sinaloa (OCUS) formally renewed its Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term with the swearing-in of Julio César Martínez Muñoz, widely known within the media community as “El Coco.” As the new president, Martínez pledged to strengthen unity, professional development, and representation for communicators across Sinaloa.

During the assembly, members unanimously ratified Martínez Muñoz’s appointment to lead the organization from June 5, 2026, through June 4, 2027.

The new leadership team also includes Arlette Orduño Leyva as Secretary General and Eduardo Castillo Contreras as Treasurer.

The ceremony brought together journalists, media executives, representatives of civic organizations, business leaders, public officials, and distinguished guests, reflecting the broad support and institutional presence that OCUS has cultivated throughout its nine-year history as an organization dedicated to strengthening and representing the journalism profession.

As part of the proceedings, Mario López Ayala formally opened the Assembly and presented the resolutions previously approved by active members. Participants also highlighted the continuity of a project whose early development was driven by Ramiro Cázares and which, in recent years, was led by Eduardo Sánchez Encinas.

In his address, Julio César Martínez acknowledged the contributions of those who helped build and strengthen the organization. He called for continued unity and professional ethics at a time marked by growing misinformation and the rapid spread of unverified content. “Journalists are a family; there may be differences, but there must also be solidarity and a commitment to the truth,” he stated.

Representing Ahome Mayor Antonio Menéndez de Llano Bermúdez, Óscar Alatorre Beltrán, Director of Public Communications for the municipal government, attended the event and conveyed congratulations to the new leadership team. He also recognized the vital role journalists and communicators play in keeping society informed.

The event concluded with recognitions for members of the profession, the incorporation of new members, and the formal beginning of a new chapter for OCUS. Under the leadership of Julio César Martínez, the organization aims to advance initiatives focused on professional development, training, and the defense of journalism in Sinaloa.
