The book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, by journalist Lars Anderson, reconstructs the period leading to the couple’s divorce in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage.
According to the biography, Brady temporarily left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2022 preseason training camp to travel privately to the Bahamas and try to save the marriage. Members of the coaching staff reportedly noticed that the quarterback was emotionally affected before his departure and uncertain about whether he would return. When he eventually rejoined the team, people around him described a striking change in his demeanor.
The book also says Brady arrived at training camp almost nine kilograms lighter than usual. Former Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians attributed the weight loss to stress associated with the couple’s personal difficulties. For a player known throughout his career for extreme discipline in conditioning and nutrition, the physical change reportedly alarmed teammates and coaches.
The deeper conflict, according to Anderson’s account, extended well beyond the summer of 2022. Bündchen had previously asked Brady to consider retiring from professional football, including after his Super Bowl victory with New England in 2017. The biography portrays her as increasingly frustrated by the amount of time and emotional attention demanded by his career.
One of the book’s most unusual claims concerns astrology. A source described as close to Brady says Bündchen eventually concluded through an astrological consultation that the couple was incompatible.
