The payment covered security, traffic controls and street closures.
NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — July 2026. Taylor Swift paid New York City more than $160,000 in permit-related costs for her wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed the payment after questions arose over the use of public resources during the high-profile celebration.

The special event permit covered measures including nearby street closures, traffic management, parking restrictions and security operations. A substantial New York Police Department presence surrounded the venue as guests arrived for events held between July 2 and 3. The authorization was reportedly approved only days before the celebration.

The wedding transformed the iconic arena into a private venue and attracted intense international attention. More than 1,000 guests reportedly attended under strict security and confidentiality arrangements. The celebration coincided with a particularly demanding period for New York authorities because of Independence Day events and World Cup activity.

Although the mayor said Swift had covered more than $160,000, questions remain over whether that amount included every dollar of police overtime generated by the event. City officials have not released a complete breakdown of the security expenditure. Estimates of the wedding’s overall cost have ranged from several million dollars to more than $30 million.
The world’s most watched wedding also carried one of New York’s most expensive event permits.
