Spanish authorities have arrested a 17-year-old suspect identified as the country’s leading figure within the extremist online network known as 764, following an investigation into a series of violent threats targeting schools, public institutions and prominent public figures. The operation, carried out jointly by the Guardia Civil, the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Ertzaintza, is being viewed as a significant step against a transnational digital ecosystem associated with violent radicalization and the exploitation of minors.
Investigators allege that the teenager coordinated or promoted online communications threatening mass shootings and other acts of extreme violence that generated widespread public alarm across Spain. Although none of the announced attacks were carried out, the repeated threats prompted extensive security deployments and intensified concerns over the growing influence of digitally organized extremist communities.
Authorities also accuse the suspect of participating in campaigns involving doxing, swatting and the psychological manipulation of vulnerable minors through encrypted messaging platforms, gaming communities and social networks. According to investigators, these methods were allegedly used to coerce victims into acts of self-harm, humiliation and the production of violent content intended to reinforce the group’s internal hierarchy and expand its online influence.
During searches linked to the investigation, officers reportedly seized multiple electronic devices and material containing extremist symbolism. Spanish authorities believe the case illustrates the increasingly sophisticated methods used by decentralized online networks to recruit adolescents, normalize violence and encourage criminal behavior across national borders.
The group known as 764 has drawn growing international attention because of its alleged links to cyber-enabled coercion, child exploitation, violent extremism and coordinated intimidation campaigns targeting both individuals and public institutions. Security agencies in several countries have identified similar networks as an emerging threat due to their ability to radicalize young users almost entirely through digital platforms while operating without traditional organizational structures.
The arrest highlights the broader challenge facing law enforcement agencies as extremist communities continue evolving within encrypted online environments. Beyond preventing potential acts of violence, authorities increasingly seek to dismantle the digital ecosystems that facilitate recruitment, manipulation and ideological radicalization among minors before online threats translate into real-world attacks.
