Spain’s Christmas Lottery Ad Celebrates Organ Donation and the Power of Sharing

Some gifts change lives far beyond their monetary value.

MADRID

Spain has unveiled its 2026 Christmas Lottery advertising campaign, introducing an emotional story about organ donation, second chances and human generosity. Presented at the Royal Mint in Madrid on November 6, the campaign moves beyond the traditional excitement of winning money to explore how sharing can transform another person’s life.

The five-minute commercial, titled Corazonada, follows Edu, a man who receives a heart transplant and begins experiencing everyday life with renewed appreciation. His unexpected encounter with a woman outside a lottery shop becomes the centerpiece of a narrative connecting the possibility of financial fortune with something far more consequential: the gift of life.

After purchasing a Christmas Lottery ticket based on a sudden intuition, Edu encounters a dog whose unusual behavior attracts his attention. The animal’s owner explains that she had been looking for the same lottery number, traditionally played by her brother. Edu responds by offering to share his ticket, explaining that someone had recently given him another chance at life.

The campaign’s central message, Compartir nos da la vida, meaning sharing gives us life, reflects a deliberate effort by Spain’s state lottery operator to associate a longstanding national tradition with solidarity and organ donation.

Jesús Huerta Almendro, president of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, presented the advertisement as a celebration of generosity and collective hope. The campaign also recognizes the importance of Spain’s public healthcare system and its contribution to the country’s internationally recognized organ transplantation programs.

Filmed in Santander, the commercial features recognizable locations including El Sardinero, Cañadío and the Paseo de Pereda. Its extended cinematic format reinforces the emotional storytelling that has become a distinctive feature of Spain’s annual Christmas Lottery advertising tradition.

The commercial will appear across Spanish media in Castilian Spanish, Catalan, Basque and Galician, extending its message to audiences throughout the country.

Behind the emotional campaign stands one of Spain’s most anticipated annual gambling events. The Christmas Lottery draw, scheduled for December 22, will distribute €2.87 billion in prizes, an increase of €98 million compared with 2025. Its largest prize, popularly known as El Gordo, will award €400,000 for each winning €20 ticket.

The financial figures illustrate the commercial scale of the event, but the advertisement deliberately directs attention elsewhere. Its narrative suggests that human connections, personal recovery and acts of generosity may carry meanings that cannot be expressed through monetary rewards.

The approach also demonstrates how institutional advertising can incorporate broader social themes into commercial communication. By connecting lottery participation with organ donation, the campaign introduces a public-interest message without presenting the purchase of a ticket as equivalent to a charitable contribution.

For Spanish audiences, the annual commercial has become part of the cultural anticipation surrounding Christmas. The latest edition continues that tradition while introducing a reflection on the relationship between individual fortune and collective responsibility.

The campaign ultimately proposes that life’s most meaningful opportunities are not always won through chance. Some are made possible by the decisions people take to help others.

Behind Every Fact, a Deeper Story.
