Ronald Humphrey earned a UFC contract after submitting Alexis Miranda during the third week of Dana White’s Contender Series season. The undefeated welterweight secured a rear-naked choke at 4 minutes and 3 seconds of the opening round inside the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The victory improved his professional record to 5-0.
Humphrey established pressure immediately, pursuing takedowns and forcing Miranda into defensive exchanges. After dropping his opponent with a jab, he followed him to the canvas and delivered a sustained series of ground strikes. Those attacks opened a significant cut on Miranda’s head before Humphrey moved to his back and completed the submission.
Miranda resisted several early attacks and attempted to respond with strikes of his own, allowing Humphrey to demonstrate more than finishing power. The contest showed the prospect’s ability to combine wrestling, striking, knees and submission grappling despite entering the event with only four professional appearances. The visible bleeding intensified the spectacle, but the official result came through the choke rather than the cut.
UFC chief executive Dana White praised Humphrey as unusually complete for his limited professional experience and described him as an “absolute animal.” White also credited Miranda for arriving prepared to compete rather than merely survive, arguing that his resistance made Humphrey’s performance more convincing. He suggested that matchmakers could encounter difficulty finding opponents willing to face the newcomer.
The victory occurred on a night when all five winners received UFC contracts. Alex Apodaca produced a major upset against Bella Mir, Guilherme Uriel submitted Mario Piazzon in 50 seconds, Sean Clancy Jr. stopped Gary Balletto in the second round and Nick Galanti knocked out Carlos Petruzzella in 35 seconds. Humphrey nevertheless emerged as one of the evening’s most discussed prospects because of the range and intensity of his performance.
A Contender Series contract provides entry into the UFC roster but does not guarantee rapid advancement. Humphrey will now face deeper competition, stricter tactical preparation and opponents capable of exploiting weaknesses that may not have appeared during his short regional career. His first-round finish created immediate attention; his development against established UFC welterweights will determine whether that promise becomes sustained success.
