Returning to Gotham has turned endurance into part of the performance.

Robert Pattinson has acknowledged that filming the fight sequences for The Batman Part II is proving considerably more demanding than his first appearance as Bruce Wayne. The British actor, now 40, said he can feel the difference while performing repeated action scenes, describing the physical work as “significantly harder than it used to be.” Despite the strain, he remains enthusiastic about the production and believes the sequel could be “pretty great.”
Pattinson is expected to remain in London until the end of the year as filming continues under director Matt Reeves. He characterized the production as a marathon, a description that reflects both its lengthy schedule and the intensity of portraying a vigilante whose combat style is deliberately forceful and grounded. Pattinson was cast as Batman in 2019 and filmed the original movie during 2020 and 2021, making the return particularly revealing of how physically demanding action roles change with time.
Reeves once again directs the sequel and co-wrote its screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Confirmed returning performers include Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance and Sebastian Koch have joined the cast, although the identities of several new characters remain officially undisclosed.
That secrecy has encouraged extensive speculation about the film’s antagonists. Reports have connected Stan with Harvey Dent or Victor Zsasz, while Johansson has been associated online with figures including Gilda Dent and Poison Ivy. None of those character claims has been formally confirmed, however. What has been established is that the story will continue Reeves’s separate Batman universe and explore a morally complicated Gotham still being reshaped by violence, corruption and institutional failure.
The film is scheduled to reach cinemas on February 18, 2028, following several delays. Early production images have shown a winter setting, an updated Batman suit and outdoor action involving the Batmobile. Pattinson’s comments reveal little about the plot, but they offer a clearer picture of the human effort behind the character: Batman may appear tireless on screen, while the actor carrying the role must manage exhaustion, repetition and the physical consequences of time.
