Months before his death at 27, Presley Gerber publicly described the difficulties of managing multiple medications while seeking treatment for mental health conditions and substance use. The model, son of Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died on September 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California. His previously shared reflections have resurfaced as investigators work to establish the circumstances of his death.
In a December 2025 Instagram video that was subsequently deleted, Gerber disclosed that he was taking several medications, including diazepam, alprazolam and buprenorphine. He described using them for different purposes, including managing severe panic attacks and addressing problems associated with substance use. His account revealed a complicated treatment experience, although it did not establish that the medications contributed to his death.
Gerber said he had consulted approximately 15 psychiatrists and expressed frustration with the number of treatment options and instructions he had received. He felt that having to make decisions about different medications without sufficient guidance created additional uncertainty. His comments reflected a desire for clearer medical direction rather than a rejection of professional treatment.
He also described changes in his personal environment. Having substantially reduced his alcohol consumption, he was trying to surround himself with people he considered positive influences. Growing up in Hollywood had exposed him to relationships he valued, but he acknowledged that distancing himself from certain social circles had become part of his efforts toward recovery.
His public disclosures extended beyond medication. Through a social media initiative called Mental Health Mondays, Gerber discussed his experiences with addiction and psychological distress. He hoped that speaking openly would help others recognize that they were not alone in facing similar difficulties.
In March 2026, he also discussed undergoing treatment involving ibogaine, a psychoactive substance being investigated for its potential applications in substance use disorders. The treatment remains experimental and carries significant medical risks. His personal account should not be interpreted as evidence of its effectiveness or safety.
The circumstances surrounding Gerber’s death remain under investigation. Although emergency responders received a call concerning a suspected overdose, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not established an official cause of death. Additional testing is pending, and investigators have reported no indication of criminal involvement.
His family has requested privacy while grieving. Their loss has brought renewed attention to Gerber’s efforts to discuss addiction without concealing the uncertainty and difficulty associated with his treatment experiences.
