The PlayStation 5 Pro has become difficult to obtain from several major American retailers as anticipation builds for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Availability has fluctuated across Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop and Sony’s PlayStation Direct store, with some outlets showing the console entirely out of stock.
Third-party sellers have responded by listing units for approximately $1,200 to $1,300, substantially above the console’s official $899 retail price. These inflated offers reflect scarcity within particular sales channels, but they should not be interpreted as Sony’s recommended price or evidence that authorised inventory has disappeared permanently.
The shortage followed the release of an extended presentation of Rockstar Games’ new title, strengthening speculation that players are upgrading their hardware specifically for the game. GTA VI is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X and S. It will not be available on PlayStation 4.
The PS5 Pro offers a stronger graphics processor and Sony’s artificial intelligence-assisted PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology. These capabilities can provide higher image quality, improved ray tracing and more stable performance in supported games. However, Rockstar and Sony have not detailed every technical difference players should expect between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of GTA VI.
No official sales data establish that the game alone caused the reduced availability. Production levels, retailer inventories and wider pressure on memory-component supplies may also be contributing factors. Sony is expected to replenish stock before the holiday season, making reseller prices a risky premium for consumers who can wait for authorised restocks.
