LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

Peter Cullen’s death certificate identifies cardiac arrest caused by respiratory arrest as the immediate cause of his death. The underlying condition was a malignant tumor in the lower lobe of his lungs, according to the document obtained by American media outlets.

The certificate also listed cerebellar metastasis, hypoxia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia as contributing medical conditions. Cullen died at his home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood, surrounded by members of his family.

The Canadian-born actor first voiced Optimus Prime in the original Transformers animated series in 1984. He later returned to the character for the live-action film franchise and numerous animated productions, games and related projects. His interpretation, inspired by the quiet strength of his brother Larry, a former US Marine, became inseparable from the Autobot leader.

Cullen also voiced Eeyore in several Winnie the Pooh productions, KARR in Knight Rider and created the Predator’s distinctive vocal sounds. His family asked admirers to honor his legacy through compassion, integrity, loyalty and service to their communities, values closely connected to his most famous character.
