A breakthrough rookie campaign has secured the Spaniard’s place in the championship’s technological revolution.

Pepe Martí will remain with CUPRA KIRO for the 2026/27 Formula E season, extending his relationship with the team after an impressive debut campaign. The 21-year-old Catalan driver will therefore participate in the championship’s transition to the new GEN4 regulations, which promise faster, more powerful and technically demanding electric cars.
Martí finished his first season with 66 points and emerged as the highest-ranked rookie in the drivers’ championship. He scored points in only his second E-Prix and later produced a notable recovery at the Monaco E-Prix, climbing from 15th on the grid to third place. That result made him the first Spanish driver to reach a Formula E podium.
A second podium followed in Sanya, where Martí finished runner-up and confirmed that his Monaco performance was more than an isolated breakthrough. He also led races and demonstrated an ability to manage Formula E’s complicated combination of energy conservation, strategic positioning and aggressive wheel-to-wheel competition. Team principal Russell O’Hagan said renewing Martí was an easy decision, highlighting his talent, work ethic and maturity.
The extension gives Martí continuity as Formula E introduces its GEN4 car. The new machinery will deliver up to 600 kilowatts of power, equivalent to approximately 815 horsepower, and use active all-wheel drive during key phases of competition. Preseason testing is expected to take place at Spain’s Jarama circuit before the championship begins in December, giving Martí an important opportunity to help shape the team’s adaptation.
Martí arrived in Formula E after two seasons in Formula 2 and remains associated with Fernando Alonso’s A14 management programme. His decision to continue in the electric championship indicates that his immediate priority is developing into a consistent Formula E contender rather than treating the category merely as an alternative route toward Formula One. His rookie results created expectations, but GEN4 will reset many competitive assumptions and demand rapid technical learning from every driver.
