The Spanish champion signs through 2029 following remarkable international success.
MADRID
Spanish cyclist Paula Blasi has officially signed with Movistar Team for three seasons beginning in 2027, completing one of the most significant transfers in women’s professional cycling. The 23-year-old arrives from UAE Team ADQ after a breakthrough campaign that included victory at La Vuelta Femenina and a fifth-place finish at the Tour de France Femmes.
Movistar announced the agreement on October 21, confirming that Blasi will represent the Spanish team through the 2029 season. Her signing strengthens a roster that already includes established international competitors Marlen Reusser and Liane Lippert.
Born in Esplugues de Llobregat, near Barcelona, Blasi has progressed rapidly since competing as an amateur in 2024. That year, she won Catalonia’s road race and time trial championships and finished fourth at the Tour de l’Avenir.
She joined UAE’s development program in 2025 before earning promotion to its WorldTour squad. Her first professional season brought four victories, including a stage win at the Tour de Romandie Féminin, along with the European under-23 road title and a bronze medal at the under-23 World Championships.
Her development accelerated in 2026. Blasi won the Amstel Gold Race and became the first Spanish cyclist to claim the overall title at La Vuelta Femenina, establishing herself as a contender in both one-day races and major stage competitions.
She subsequently won the CIC-Tour Féminin des Pyrénées and the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, demonstrating climbing ability and consistency across demanding terrain.
At the Tour de France Femmes, Blasi finished fifth overall in her debut appearance, adding another important result to her international record.
The move to Movistar represents more than a change of jersey. Blasi joins a team seeking to combine experienced leadership with younger riders capable of competing for major titles over the coming years.
She has indicated that the opportunity to share leadership responsibilities and learn from Reusser influenced her decision. Representing a Spanish team also carries personal significance for the Catalan cyclist.
Movistar’s women’s program, established in 2018, has developed into an internationally competitive operation. The organization has also invested in emerging talent, including junior world champions Cat Ferguson, Paula Ostiz and Alejandra Neira.
Team manager Sebastián Unzué welcomed Blasi’s arrival as an important reinforcement for the squad’s ambitions in major international races.
The transfer highlights growing competition among professional women’s cycling teams to secure young riders with proven results. Sustained investment, sporting leadership and access to major competitions are increasingly important considerations in recruitment.
Blasi’s achievements make her arrival strategically significant, although success with a new team will depend on adaptation, race planning and cooperation with established leaders.
Her first season with Movistar begins in 2027. For the Spanish organization, the signing creates opportunities to compete for additional major victories while strengthening its long-term development.
For Blasi, the challenge is to transform an exceptional breakthrough season into sustained success at the highest level.
Beyond the Finish Line, Legacy Matters.
