In a heartfelt event filled with professional pride and a firm commitment to the right of free expression, the United Communicators Organization of Sinaloa (OCUS) held one of its most emblematic annual ceremonies at the Escuela Vocacional de Artes (EVA): the commemoration of Freedom of Expression Day in Mexico, an ideal occasion to celebrate the career achievements, innovation, and leadership of journalists who have become benchmarks in northern Mexico.
The event began with the renewal of the organization’s leadership, confirming the following Board Members for a new term:
- Eduardo Sánchez Encinas, President
- Nereyda Inzunza Jiménez, Secretary
- Mario López Berrelleza, Treasurer
With resolute conviction, the three leaders took their oath of office for the period from June 7, 2025, to June 6, 2026, pledging to uphold the statutes and safeguard the interests of their fellow members.
The ceremony also included the formal induction of new members, featuring prominent voices in journalism:
- Gerardo Rubén Escobar Torres
- Juan Ángel Rivera López
- Abdel Jalil Khezouri
- Mao Agustín Bon Burgos
- Hugo Ortiz Soto
In a moving gesture of remembrance, a posthumous tribute was paid with a minute of silence in honor of journalist Guillermo Macías, a foundational figure within OCUS.

Five renowned Sinaloan journalists were honored for their exceptional contributions, innovative work, and dedication to the field:
📌 Mario Guadalupe López Ayala
For being a bilingual journalist with outstanding academic achievements and for earning the distinction of Researcher within the Sinaloan System of Researchers and Technologists.
📌 José López Calvo
For over 45 years of dedicated service in the fields of media and information systems in northwestern Mexico.
📌 Óscar Romero Félix
For his creative and innovative approach in showcasing young talents across digital and electronic media.
📌 Rosa Johana Vidales Romo
For her tireless efforts to stand out in media and to amplify the voices of women throughout the state.
📌 Eduardo Castillo Contreras
For exemplifying the role of socially engaged, youthful journalism with the ability to foster community change.

The celebration was graced by notable figures from government, academia, and the media, including:
