The console that introduced millions to three-dimensional gaming is returning as a 1,911-piece tribute to digital history.

LEGO and Sony have unveiled their first official PlayStation construction set, recreating the original gray console released in Japan in 1994. Designed primarily for adult collectors, set 72306 reproduces the system at approximately full scale and includes a brick-built version of its original controller.
The model contains 1,911 pieces and measures approximately 26 centimetres wide, 19 centimetres deep and six centimetres high. Its exterior replicates the console’s circular disc compartment, connection ports and familiar Power, Open and Reset controls. Some buttons incorporate mechanical functions intended to make the display piece feel closer to the original hardware.
Two concealed dioramas reference Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, franchises closely associated with PlayStation’s early generations. Owners can display these scenes separately or store them inside the console. The design combines external accuracy with hidden details intended for enthusiasts who remember the platform’s earliest games.
LEGO Insiders will receive early purchasing access on October 1, followed by a wider release on October 4 through official stores and selected retailers. The announced price is $159.99 in the United States and €159.99 in European markets, although local prices and availability may vary.
The collaboration reflects the growing commercial value of video-game nostalgia. After producing brick versions of systems associated with Nintendo, Atari and Sega, LEGO is extending its catalogue to one of the most influential consoles of the 1990s. The PlayStation model is not functional, but it transforms a familiar piece of gaming technology into an object built around memory, design and display.
