Jay-Z to Headline Super Bowl 2027 Halftime Show in Historic Career Moment

Hip-hop’s influential businessman returns to music’s biggest stage.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.

Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, marking a significant moment in a career that has transformed the rapper from a pioneering recording artist into one of the entertainment industry’s most influential entrepreneurs. The announcement, confirmed by the National Football League (NFL), Apple Music and Roc Nation, brings the musician to a stage he has helped shape from behind the scenes for nearly eight years.

The 56-year-old artist, born Shawn Carter, will perform at an event expected to attract one of the largest television audiences of the year. His selection follows years of speculation about whether he would eventually headline the production himself, particularly after Roc Nation became the NFL’s live music entertainment partner in 2019. The decision places Jay-Z at the center of a spectacle whose cultural significance has expanded far beyond American football.

The performance will also coincide with the 30th anniversary celebrations of Reasonable Doubt, his debut studio album, released in 1996. The record established his reputation as a distinctive voice in New York hip-hop and laid the foundation for a career spanning music, entertainment management, sports representation and business investment. The anniversary offers an opportunity to revisit that history before an international audience, although the precise songs and production arrangements for the halftime show have not been announced.

The NFL confirmed Jay-Z’s participation during its Monday Night Football broadcast, ending speculation that had intensified following reports about negotiations surrounding the next halftime performer. Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the artist’s longstanding contribution to the event and the league’s interest in having him perform.

Jay-Z had previously resisted the idea. When Roc Nation entered its partnership with the NFL, he made clear that he did not want the arrangement to be interpreted primarily as an opportunity to secure a halftime appearance for himself. His eventual decision represents a change in that position, bringing together his artistic career and the responsibilities he assumed as an executive involved in the show’s development.

Since 2019, Roc Nation has played a central role in selecting performers and producing the halftime experience. The partnership has coincided with appearances by Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. These productions have demonstrated the NFL’s increasing emphasis on musical diversity, international audiences and performances designed to circulate across digital platforms long after the game concludes.

The 2027 production will be executive-produced by Roc Nation, with Hamish Hamilton directing. Hamilton has extensive experience with major televised entertainment events, including previous Super Bowl halftime performances. The show’s creative direction, potential guest artists and final production concept remain undisclosed.

Jay-Z enters the event with an established body of work and considerable cultural recognition. His catalog includes The Blueprint, The Black Album and songs such as 99 Problems, Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem) and Empire State of Mind, recorded with Alicia Keys. Across his career, he has received 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations, achievements that reflect both commercial success and recognition within the recording industry.

His influence also extends into songwriting and music history. In 2017, he became the first hip-hop artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, followed by his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. These distinctions recognize an artist whose work helped establish rap as a central force in contemporary popular music.

Recent performances have demonstrated his continuing ability to attract large audiences despite periods of limited conventional album activity. His anniversary concerts have included sold-out appearances in the United States and Europe, culminating in performances at SoFi Stadium shortly before the Super Bowl announcement. The concerts provided a recent demonstration of the scale of his live performances, although the halftime production will operate under substantially different technical and broadcast requirements.

His business career adds another dimension to the event. Jay-Z became hip-hop’s first billionaire, according to Forbes in 2019, after building commercial interests spanning entertainment, beverages, sports management and investments. Roc Nation has developed into a diversified company operating across artist representation, entertainment production and related businesses.

That transition from recording artist to business executive is particularly relevant to his forthcoming appearance. The Super Bowl halftime show is not simply a concer
