Innovation is moving from patents to power.
Athens, May 2026. Greece stands out in the 2026 European Inventor Award with two figures connected to major industrial frontiers: data storage and oat-based food technology. The recognition places Greek-linked innovation inside two strategic economies that rarely share the same headline: artificial intelligence infrastructure and the future of sustainable nutrition.
Swiss-Greek inventor Evangelos Eleftheriou was selected for advances in data storage technologies that helped make digital systems faster, denser and more energy efficient. His work matters because AI, cloud computing and data centers are pushing electricity demand upward, turning storage efficiency into a hidden pillar of technological sovereignty.
Greek-Swedish scientist Angeliki Triantafyllou was recognized for an enzymatic process that improves the taste, texture and stability of oat-based drinks. The invention addresses a different but equally strategic market: food transition, dairy alternatives and consumer demand for products that are healthier, scalable and functional in everyday use.
The broader message is clear. Europe’s innovation map is no longer defined only by aerospace, pharmaceuticals or heavy industry. It is also being shaped by memory systems, food science, biotechnology and patent ecosystems capable of turning laboratory precision into industrial advantage.
