Advanced editing now takes only a few taps.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, UNITED STATES — July 2026. Google Photos has introduced Video Remix, a generative artificial intelligence tool that allows users to transform ordinary recordings without professional editing software. The feature analyzes an existing clip and applies visual changes through a selection of predefined templates. Users can modify the atmosphere, background or artistic appearance of a video directly inside the application.
The tool can replace ordinary settings with environments such as a beach at sunset or a coffee shop. It can also alter lighting by adding effects inspired by golden hour or softer cinematic tones. Other options can transform recordings into styles resembling anime, watercolor, oil painting or hand-drawn sketches.
Video Remix is located within the Create section of Google Photos, alongside collages, animations and highlight videos. Users select a stored video, choose the desired transformation and allow the artificial intelligence to generate the new version. Both vertical and horizontal recordings are supported, although some clips may be automatically cropped.
The feature is initially being released in selected countries and may require an eligible Google AI subscription. Users must have an internet connection, and daily generation limits may apply depending on the account and service plan. Availability can also vary according to region, device and application version.
The launch reflects Google’s effort to transform Photos from a storage platform into a broader creative environment powered by generative AI. The company is also using identification technologies to distinguish content created or modified by its artificial intelligence systems. Video Remix brings advanced audiovisual editing closer to users without technical experience.
Everyday recordings can now become entirely new visual experiences.
