French Producer Nicolas Altmayer and Dior Executive Mathilde Favier Die in Car Crash

The deaths of two prominent figures have cast a shadow over France’s film and fashion industries.

DEUX-SÈVRES, France | August 2026. French film producer Nicolas Altmayer and Dior public relations executive Mathilde Favier have died in a road accident in western France. Their vehicle reportedly collided with an oncoming truck while attempting to overtake in the Deux-Sèvres department. Local judicial authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Altmayer, 61, was a respected producer whose career spanned three decades of French cinema. His credits included In the HouseYoung & Beautiful and the successful OSS 117 film series. Tributes from the industry described him as an experienced creative force who helped carry French storytelling to international audiences.

Favier, 57, held a senior position within Dior’s public relations team and contributed significantly to the global reputation of Christian Dior Couture. LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault expressed profound sorrow over her sudden death, highlighting the passion, energy and talent she devoted to the fashion house. Colleagues remembered her for combining professional commitment with personal elegance.

French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard said their deaths had darkened two cultural worlds: cinema, through the stories it creates, and fashion, through the silhouettes it designs. Their shared legacy reflects the influence that French creativity continues to project across borders. Some lives shape culture so deeply that their absence becomes part of its history.
