The beloved Jedi Master may still have important stories left to tell.
UNITED STATES — August 2026
Ewan McGregor has expressed his interest in returning to the Star Wars universe to explore a little-known chapter in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life, focusing on the years leading up to Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The actor believes this unexplored period offers significant storytelling potential and an opportunity to further develop one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
McGregor noted that a substantial gap remains between the events portrayed in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the version of the Jedi Master portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy. According to the actor, that period could reveal new personal struggles, missions and moments of growth during Obi-Wan’s years in exile on Tatooine.
Although portions of this timeline have been explored in official Star Wars comics, it has never been fully developed in a live-action television series or feature film. McGregor believes there is still ample room to expand the character’s journey while remaining faithful to the established canon.
Lucasfilm has not announced any new projects centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Nevertheless, McGregor’s comments have reignited enthusiasm among fans eager to see him reprise one of the most celebrated roles in the Star Wars saga.
The unexplored years of Obi-Wan Kenobi remain one of the franchise’s richest opportunities for future storytelling.
