Players can claim it permanently before the deadline.

Epic Games is offering The Ouroboros King, a turn-based strategy title combining the foundations of chess with roguelike progression, as a free mobile download for a limited period.
The promotion remains available until July 23, 2026. Users who claim the game before the deadline can keep it permanently in their Epic Games library, even after the regular price is restored.
Developed by Oriol Cosp Games, The Ouroboros King reinterprets the logic of chess through a fantasy campaign built around tactical battles, changing armies and unpredictable discoveries. Instead of reproducing a conventional match between identical sets of pieces, the game asks players to create their own forces and adapt them as the campaign develops.
Each encounter takes place on a board inspired by chess, but the player can recruit unusual units, combine different abilities and obtain relics or gadgets capable of altering the tactical possibilities of a battle. The objective is to strengthen the army and defeat the Coven, the central enemy confronting the player throughout the campaign.
Its roguelike structure means that progress is shaped by repeated runs, changing decisions and elements of uncertainty. Players cannot always rely on the same combination of pieces, resources or upgrades. They must evaluate what is available, construct a viable strategy and respond to new threats with limited information.
This design makes the title accessible to people who enjoy chess-like thinking without requiring extensive knowledge of formal openings, established theory or competitive notation. The developers present it as a tactical experience that can be understood through experimentation, allowing newcomers to learn how individual pieces behave while building progressively more complex combinations.
An average session lasts between 15 and 45 minutes, making the game suitable for mobile use without reducing it to a simplistic or purely casual experience. A player can complete a brief tactical run during a short period or spend more time developing an army and exploring the interactions between different units.
The standard price of the game on PC and Mac is approximately $9.99, giving the mobile promotion additional value for users interested in independent strategy games. However, the offer must be claimed through the Epic Games Store application rather than through the conventional application stores installed on most phones.
On Android devices, users can access the Epic Games mobile platform by scanning the QR code presented on the company’s store page. The process redirects the phone toward the application installer, after which the user must authorize installation from an external source.
That permission should be handled carefully. Android treats applications obtained outside its principal store differently because the operating system cannot apply exactly the same distribution controls. Users should confirm that the installer comes directly from Epic Games and avoid unofficial pages, modified files or download links shared through messages and social networks.
Once the Epic Games application has been installed, the user must sign in with an existing account or create one. The free-game section then allows The Ouroboros King to be added to the account library before the promotion expires.
The situation is more limited for Apple users. The mobile Epic Games Store is available on iOS only within countries of the European Union, where regulatory changes have permitted alternative application marketplaces. Consequently, iPhone users outside the bloc may not be able to access the same mobile promotion through Epic’s platform.
The giveaway forms part of Epic Games’ broader strategy of using free titles to attract users, expand its digital ecosystem and increase engagement with its store. The company has applied this model extensively on PC, where weekly promotions encourage players to open the platform regularly and gradually build permanent libraries.
The approach reduces the immediate barrier to discovering independent games. Smaller titles often compete for attention against major franchises supported by large advertising budgets. A temporary giveaway can introduce them to a significantly wider audience and generate future interest in their developers’ other projects.
Alongside the mobile promotion, Epic Games is distributing two additional titles for PC until July 23. Echo Generation: Midnight Edition is a turn-based role-playing adventure set in the 1990s, following a group of young characters investigating supernatural events in their hometown.
The second title, Luto, is a psychological horror experience centered on grief, fear and loss. Its protagonist is trapped inside a house and must confront a disturbing narrative in which physical spaces and emotional perceptions become increasingly difficult to separate.
Unlike those two PC releases, The Ouroboros King stands out for transforming one of history’s most recognizable strategy systems into a flexible digital format. Chess supplies the basic visual language, but the changing armies, relics and campaign structure create a game in which memorizing traditional moves is less important than adapting to the situation presented.
The result is a tactical experience positioned between a board game and a modern independent adventure. It rewards planning but also requires improvisation, because the most effective army may depend on the pieces and enhancements discovered during each run.
The promotion offers mobile players an opportunity to explore that concept without paying the usual acquisition price. The essential condition is timing: the title must be claimed by July 23, although it does not need to be installed or completed before that date.
Once added to the user’s account, it remains part of the library. The temporary offer ends, but ownership does not.
