Dozens Killed in Gaza as Israel Claims to Have Eliminated Hamas Members

The escalation unfolds amid civilian displacement and growing international demands for a ceasefire.

Gaza Strip, September 2025. Israeli forces intensified their operations in the Gaza city overnight, with the military claiming to have killed militants of Hamas while targeting what it describes as terrorist infrastructure. Local authorities report at least 34 people killed during the raid, though Palestinian media and humanitarian sources estimate the toll could be twice as high, as attacks spread across multiple areas of the enclave.

According to hospital officials, among the dead were members of the same family whose home was struck in the early hours. The hospital’s administrative director stated that six members of a single household perished. Another five victims were reported in an attack near Shawa Square. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera and other pan-Arab outlets cited totals of around 60 killed across Gaza in the recent wave of bombardments.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that their objective is to dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities. Their operations reportedly included airstrikes on over 100 terrorist targets, including underground facilities, weapon depots, sniper positions, and explosive traps. In Gaza City, IDF forces allegedly dismantled terrorist compounds, located arms caches, neutralized fighters, and engaged militant lookouts. Similar actions were claimed in southern areas such as Jan Yunis and Rafah.

Amid the strikes, massive displacement has occurred. Israel has urged hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza City to move south to designated humanitarian zones. In recent days it opened a corridor to facilitate evacuation, yet many residents remain trapped: too weak to travel, unable to afford leaving, or unwilling to abandon homes despite danger. Estimates suggest around 500,000 people have fled the city, traveling by foot or vehicle under strained conditions.

Humanitarian organizations have warned that forcing large populations to evacuate under fire exacerbates the crisis. Concerns run high about shortages of food, water, medical care, and shelter. With civilian infrastructure already damaged, delivering aid becomes more difficult, particularly when safe passage is not guaranteed.

These operations come at a time when voices in the international community, especially in the West, express growing unease over the scale of the destruction in Gaza. Some states are considering recognizing Palestine as a state in upcoming international forums, adding diplomatic weight to calls for an immediate ceasefire.

Meanwhile, those holding hostages in Gaza and their families are raising sharp criticism of the Israeli government, arguing that the continued military campaign and delayed negotiations are putting the lives of captives at risk. They accuse the leadership of using the crisis as a political tool while the fate of those still detained remains uncertain.

The unfolding scenario reveals a conflict increasingly tangled between military objectives and humanitarian disaster, where civilian suffering grows with each offensive. As Gaza’s population faces displacement, trauma, and loss, the prospects for peace appear more distant, while calls for restraint and accountability intensify.

Behind every fact, there is an intention. Behind every silence, a structure.
