A devastating fire aboard a passenger ferry off Indonesia’s East Java coast has claimed at least five lives, while 41 people remain missing as authorities continue an intensive search and rescue operation. The vessel was carrying hundreds of passengers when flames rapidly spread through the ship, forcing many aboard to abandon it by jumping into the sea as thick smoke engulfed the ferry.
