A fatal attack leaves investigators confronting unanswered questions.

Brazilian social media influencer Evelyn Lima Dantas, 21, was shot dead outside her home in Mãe do Rio, in the northeastern part of Pará state, on September 16. According to local police reports, at least two armed men entered the residence during the early morning, restrained her father and forcibly removed her from the property. The attackers then shot her multiple times before fleeing in a vehicle. Her death comes days after she was granted provisional release from custody in an unrelated, ongoing homicide investigation.
The victim’s father told investigators that the assailants forced him to remain on the floor while they took his daughter outside. Before escaping, the attackers reportedly painted the letters TCP on the exterior wall of the residence, a marking associated with the criminal organization Terceiro Comando Puro. Authorities have not established whether members of the group carried out the killing or whether the inscription was intended to mislead investigators. The organization’s possible involvement therefore remains an investigative hypothesis rather than a confirmed finding.
Police were alerted at approximately 3:30 a.m. after residents reported hearing gunshots. Officers arrived to find Dantas’s body on the sidewalk, prompting forensic examinations and witness interviews. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the vehicle used by the attackers and reconstruct their movements before and after the crime. As of the initial police reports, no arrests had been announced.
The circumstances have attracted additional attention because Dantas had been released from custody on September 9. She was under investigation for allegedly participating in the planning of the murder of retired police sergeant Antônio Anildo Alves da Silva, who was killed on July 29. Authorities had also previously investigated her over suspected drug trafficking and alleged connections to organized crime. Those allegations had not resulted in a final judicial determination of guilt, and investigators have not established that her murder was connected to the earlier proceedings.
Dantas maintained a social media presence with more than 24,000 followers, sharing photographs, travel experiences and lifestyle content. Her account was reportedly deactivated following her death. Although her public profile brought wider attention to the case, the central investigative questions concern the identities of the attackers, their motives and the circumstances that allowed them to carry out the assault.
The killing also illustrates the difficulties of investigating violent crimes when possible organized crime connections remain unverified. A symbol left at a crime scene may provide an investigative lead, but it cannot independently establish responsibility. Police must distinguish physical evidence, witness testimony and digital records from assumptions based on a victim’s previous legal circumstances.
For Dantas’s family, the immediate consequences extend beyond the criminal investigation. Her father witnessed the attack, while authorities continue examining evidence that could help reconstruct the events. The investigation remains open, and the available information does not establish whether the killing was motivated by retaliation, an internal criminal dispute or another circumstance.
The case ultimately concerns a young woman’s violent death and the responsibility of investigators to establish what happened through verifiable evidence. Her previous legal situation cannot substitute for proof concerning the perpetrators of her murder.
