Private capital enters Bezos’s space race.
KENT, UNITED STATES | JULY 2026
Blue Origin is seeking to raise $10 billion from external investors as Jeff Bezos intensifies his effort to compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The proposed financing would value the aerospace company at approximately $130 billion before the new capital is included. It would also mark the first time in Blue Origin’s history that outside investors participate directly in its ownership structure.
Coatue Management is expected to lead the investment round with up to $4 billion, while Bezos could contribute another $2 billion. Other institutional investors would provide the remaining capital if the negotiations are completed. The operation represents a major strategic shift for a company traditionally financed through the Amazon founder’s personal fortune.

The new resources would support Blue Origin’s expansion in reusable rockets, satellite communications, orbital infrastructure and lunar missions. Its New Glenn rocket is central to contracts involving NASA exploration programs and United States national security launches. The company is also developing satellite projects designed to broaden its presence beyond launch services.
The financing effort follows setbacks that increased pressure on Blue Origin to strengthen its infrastructure and accelerate the frequency of its missions. Despite those challenges, investor interest remains strong as governments and private companies expand spending in the space and defense industries. The capital could provide the company with greater operational flexibility during a critical phase of development.

SpaceX continues to hold a significant advantage through its launch cadence, reusable rocket fleet and satellite operations. Blue Origin’s proposed funding would not immediately close that gap, but it could strengthen Bezos’s ability to compete for strategic contracts and future lunar projects. The rivalry is evolving from a contest between billionaires into a battle for control of the commercial infrastructure surrounding Earth and the Moon.
