MIAMI GARDENS, UNITED STATES | JULY 2026

Jude Bellingham scored twice as England defeated Norway 2-1 after extra time to reach the 2026 World Cup semifinals. The Real Madrid midfielder equalized before halftime and delivered the winning goal three minutes into extra time. England returned to the tournament’s final four for the first time since 2018.

Norway opened the scoring through Andreas Schjelderup in the 36th minute after England struggled to impose its possession. Bellingham responded shortly before the interval with a composed finish that restored parity. The match remained level through regulation before the English midfielder struck again.

The decisive moment came when Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland failed to control the ball and Bellingham reacted inside the penalty area. His second goal completed England’s comeback and increased his tournament total to six. The midfielder has now matched captain Harry Kane as England’s leading scorer in the competition.

Erling Haaland entered the quarterfinal with seven goals but was prevented from scoring by England’s defensive structure. The Norwegian striker saw his influence reduced as the match progressed and was substituted during extra time while his team searched for an equalizer. His departure symbolized the end of Norway’s strongest World Cup campaign in decades.

England reached the semifinals despite coach Thomas Tuchel acknowledging that the performance lacked precision and control. The victory nevertheless showed the team’s capacity to survive pressure and resolve another elimination match through individual quality. Bellingham now stands at the center of England’s attempt to win its first World Cup since 1966.
