For Emery, the victory carries significance beyond three league points. Aston Villa entered the match with three defeats and one draw, having struggled to integrate several new players following an eventful summer transfer window. Captain John McGinn acknowledged that the result provided relief before the international break and emphasized that rebuilding the squad requires time. The performances of Jackson, Manzambi and Suzuki offered encouraging indications that the team’s emerging structure is beginning to develop.
The contrast with Tottenham is considerable. De Zerbi’s side has collected just two points from five matches, its poorest opening to a Premier League campaign since 2008. The Italian manager expressed frustration with his players’ defensive organization and their inability to manage critical moments, particularly when temporarily reduced to ten men.
