During the early 1980s, the Macintosh team operated under immense pressure to meet deadlines and deliver a machine that could redefine the relationship between people and computers. Many of its engineers were young, deeply invested in the project and willing to subordinate sleep, social life and personal balance to the mission. What later became legend was, in practice, a workplace culture where exhaustion was turned into identity.
The phrase “90 hours a week and loving it” became a symbol of that era. It appeared on team apparel and transformed overwork into a badge of belonging.
