Incorrect everyday habits can reduce performance, shorten the appliance’s lifespan and affect cooking results.

Air fryers have become one of the most widely used kitchen appliances, offering a practical way to prepare food with less oil while reducing cooking times. However, improper use can gradually damage the appliance and prevent food from achieving the texture and flavor users expect.
One of the most frequent mistakes is overloading the basket. Filling it beyond its recommended capacity prevents hot air from circulating properly around the food. This produces uneven cooking, reduces crispness and can force the appliance to work harder than necessary.
Another common problem is failing to clean the air fryer regularly. Grease, crumbs and food residue can accumulate around the basket and internal components. Beyond generating unpleasant odors or smoke, excessive buildup can interfere with airflow and eventually affect the appliance’s performance.

Using too much oil can also be counterproductive. Air fryers are specifically designed to cook primarily through rapidly circulating hot air, so excessive quantities of oil can create smoke, leave food greasy and produce unnecessary residue inside the machine.
Users should also avoid blocking ventilation openings or placing the appliance too close to walls and other objects. Air fryers generate considerable heat and require adequate ventilation. Restricting airflow can contribute to overheating and potentially shorten the useful life of internal components.
Finally, ignoring the cooking requirements of different foods can compromise results. Temperature, cooking time and whether food needs to be turned or shaken vary according to the ingredients being prepared. Treating every recipe identically can result in food that is burned externally while remaining insufficiently cooked inside.

The air fryer may appear simple, but its performance depends heavily on correct airflow, temperature management and regular maintenance. Using it properly does more than improve meals—it can also extend the life of an appliance that has become a fixture in millions of kitchens.
