The 23-year-old Spaniard will make her debut for Team Europe after rapidly progressing from amateur world No. 1 to the highest level of professional golf.
Benahavís, Spain, August 14, 2026.— Julia López Ramírez has secured one of the most important achievements of her young career after being selected to represent Europe at the 2026 Solheim Cup.
European captain Anna Nordqvist chose the Spanish golfer as one of her four captain’s picks, alongside Leona Maguire, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes. The competition against the United States will take place from September 11 to 13 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
López will be one of four rookies on the European team. She joins fellow Spaniard Carlota Ciganda, an established Solheim Cup figure who qualified through the world rankings.
Born in Málaga and raised in Benahavís, López began playing golf at the age of three. Her development eventually took her to Mississippi State University, where she won eight individual tournaments and claimed consecutive Southeastern Conference titles in 2023 and 2024.
Her amateur career reached its highest point in July 2024, when she became the first Spanish woman to occupy the top position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. She had already won the European Ladies Amateur Championship one year earlier.
López turned professional in late 2024 and earned her LPGA Tour card by finishing tied for 10th at the qualifying school. Her powerful swing soon became one of her defining characteristics, placing her among the longest hitters on the women’s circuit.
Her transition to professional golf has also produced promising results. She finished tied for 19th in her 2025 U.S. Women’s Open debut and recorded a top-10 result at the 2026 HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.
The Solheim Cup now presents a different challenge, combining individual performance with match-play strategy and team responsibility. Europe will attempt to reclaim the trophy after the United States won the previous edition in 2024.
For López, the selection represents both recognition of her rapid progress and an opportunity to establish herself among the leading figures of a new generation in European women’s golf.
