Cristiano Ronaldo moved within 15 goals of the historic 1,000-goal milestone after scoring a second-half hat-trick in Al-Nassr’s 5-3 victory over Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday. At 41, the Portuguese forward continues to extend one of football’s most remarkable scoring careers, reaching 985 official senior goals through a performance that transformed a difficult contest into an important league victory.
The match at Al-Awwal Park initially proved more complicated than the final result suggested. Al-Kholood opened the scoring through Julien Domingues in the 16th minute, forcing the hosts to respond. Brazilian winger Ângelo equalized before Sadio Mané put Al-Nassr ahead, but Antoine Essomba restored parity shortly before halftime.
Ronaldo had already experienced frustration during the opening period, with two goals ruled out for offside. Despite his involvement in Al-Nassr’s attacking play, the Portuguese captain entered halftime without adding to his career tally, while the visiting side remained firmly in contention.
The decisive transformation arrived after the interval. In the 66th minute, João Félix delivered the pass that allowed Ronaldo to finish from close range and restore Al-Nassr’s advantage. Six minutes later, the two Portuguese internationals combined again, with Félix supplying a cross that Ronaldo converted with a powerful header.
The third goal followed in the 81st minute. Mané created the opportunity before setting up Ronaldo, who completed his hat-trick and extended the score to 5-2. Domingues subsequently converted a late penalty for Al-Kholood, producing the final 5-3 result.
