Charlize Theron has revealed that her Mad Max: Fury Road costars helped care for her eldest daughter, Jackson, during the film’s demanding six-month production in Namibia. Speaking at an Academy Museum event, Theron described those experiences as some of her most treasured memories from making the acclaimed action film.

Theron had adopted Jackson shortly before filming began in 2012 and arrived in Namibia without arranging a full-time caregiver. Her daughter remained close to the production, frequently staying inside the War Rig with Theron’s assistant and the vehicle’s driver. Between takes, the actress would feed her while other cast members held, entertained or comforted the infant.

Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Courtney Eaton and Nicholas Hoult were among the performers Theron credited with creating that informal support network. She joked that Jackson sometimes fell asleep in their arms or became sick on Hoult. The child also took her first steps during production, permanently connecting Theron’s earliest experience of motherhood with the film.

The account offers a warmer perspective on a shoot generally remembered for extreme desert conditions, physical exhaustion and creative tensions. Theron has previously spoken candidly about the difficulties of playing Imperator Furiosa while caring for a baby who was not yet sleeping through the night. She was simultaneously training, performing elaborate action sequences and handling nighttime feedings.

Released in 2015, Fury Road became one of the most celebrated action films of its generation and received six Academy Awards. Its visual scale and practical stunts dominated public discussion, but Theron’s recollection reveals the less visible relationships that sustained the people behind the production. For the actress, the film’s legacy is not limited to Furiosa or its cinematic achievements. It also preserves the memory of a group of colleagues helping a new mother navigate an extraordinary professional and personal transition.
