A recent survey found that most adults now see creativity as more essential than ever, precisely because AI is entering spaces once reserved for human expression.

The concern is not that children use technology. The deeper fear is that they may begin outsourcing effort, uncertainty and original thought before those abilities fully mature. When a chatbot can write, draw, summarize or suggest an idea instantly, creativity risks becoming less a process of discovery and more a habit of selection.

Parents and children do not read the risk in the same way. Adults are more likely to worry that AI may weaken independent thinking or compete with future job opportunities, while many children see it as a tool, a shortcut or even a game. That generational gap matters because the household is becoming the first classroom where AI norms are negotiated.

The physical act of making things still carries educational value. Drawing, building, writing by hand or creating objects at home gives children a sense of effort, ownership and emotional attachment that automated production cannot easily replace. Creativity is not only the final result; it is the frustration, revision and patience required to produce something personal.

The real challenge is balance. AI can support curiosity, expand access and help children explore ideas, but it should not replace experimentation, boredom, manual creation or family participation. If childhood creativity becomes too dependent on automated assistance, the future risk is not only weaker art, but weaker autonomy.
