A new dimension of the war in Ukraine has taken shape as SpaceX, in coordination with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, has moved to block the use of the Starlink satellite internet network by Russian forces. The decision underscores how commercial technologies have become embedded in modern warfare, transforming civilian infrastructure into contested strategic terrain.
Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian forces were allegedly using unauthorized Starlink terminals to extend the operational range of attack drones and other military assets, bypassing traditional electronic warfare defenses.
